Plan B – Mobilizing To Save Civilisation by Lester R. Brown
At the start of this year (2012) I was still very skeptical about global warming. The buzzword had become a political stick and the parties weren’t shy about wielding it wildly. The intention was good, but the beat down never came, and the threat of the big stick became just that, a stick. Big Oil and the politicians squashed it successfully in congress and global warming went away as the corporately-owned media fluttered more reality-TV gossip in front of our increasingly medicated audiences. But I wasn’t convinced, I could see what was going on in the world around me; glacier melts, storms, uncanny weather, and so I set about doing a little truth seeking and research of my own; google searches, video, books, etc. I came across a book (Plan B – Mobilizing To Save Civilisation by Lester R. Brown) and it helped me become more determined in my course of action to become a better Prepper.
Lester R. Brown splits his book into three parts:
- The Challenges
- The Response
- The Great Mobilization
He discusses population pressure and about how our civilization’s foundation is eroding because of reducing water tables, farmers losing their water to cities, about how cars and people are competing for grain, he continues with discussing the rising global temperature and its effects, the melting ice and the rising seas.
Our civilisation needs to change it’s energy consumption culture on a global scale, and it needs to change it NOW!

It disturbed me, as I read further, how politically unstable the planet is and how interwoven Big Agriculture and Big Energy has become in the world today.
