Super Bowl Black Out

Super Bowl Black Out

If it can happen on Super Bowl Sunday witnessed by a crowd of over 71,000 fans and in front of millions of fans around the world on the TV… then it can happen anywhere!

A 35 minute power interruption at the Superdome in New Orleans yesterday (Sunday February 3rd, 2013) was caused by “A piece of equipment that is designed to monitor electrical load sensed an abnormality in the system. Once the issue was detected, the sensing equipment operated as designed and opened a breaker, causing power to be partially cut to the Superdome in order to isolate the issue. Backup generators kicked in immediately as designed.”

Luckily it was nothing more serious, but stop and think for a moment. What if it had been more serious? What if they had not been able to recover the power? What if the city had been affected by a major outtage? What would those 71,000 people have done? What would the city of New Orleans, or any city for that matter, have done when the power goes out?

Are you prepared???

Do you have a plan???
